Functionality

Optical connection is one of the most  popular  ways of transferring the audio signal between devices in  the home theater,  e.g. between  an receiver  and  a TV  or a digital-to-analog converter. Another frequently used connection is a  computer  to  home theater receiver  or a standalone digital to analog converter (DAC).

Toslink optical cables  (SPDIF) are very often used for digital signal transmission. In this case, the signal is transported in the form  of light pulses.  For this reason, optical cables always convert the signal - both at the input and at the output.
